Why 2027 matters
Since 2024, Texas has capped yearly increases in the taxable value of non-homestead property at 20% (for property worth up to $5.32 million in 2026). That cap expires December 31, 2026 unless the Legislature renews it. If it lapses, your 2027 notice can jump straight to HCAD's full market value.
How the check works
Texas law lets you protest when your property is valued higher than similar properties (unequal appraisal, Tax Code 41.43). We compare your building's value per square foot with similar buildings of the same type and size in your HCAD market area, using HCAD's own records. It's free, and you see the comparables.
